From walk-in wardrobes to under-stair cupboards, there are plenty of ways to design your furniture. The furniture adapts to your home as well as these components.

Hanging rod: A standard depth

If your cabinet has doors, count on a depth of 50 to 60cm. Below this, the hanger is likely to bump into the door and interfere with its closure.

Without a door, just 45cm may be enough with standard hangers.

Besides, there's no point in going beyond 80cm, you'll lose more space as you won't be able to make comfortable use of the much too consequent width for the hanging rail.

Hanging rail: a variable height for Mr or Mrs

On average, we recommend around 1m minimum height in the compartments with hanging rails. This way, jackets and shirts can be stored there easily.

If you have long garments, such as trench coats or long jackets, we recommend 1m60 to 1m70 in height in order to store them without folding anything.

3. Foldable clothing

Foldable clothing for adults can be stored in compartments a minimum of 30-40cm wide, depending on the thickness of your clothes. For depth, 45cm is more than enough to store any type of folded garment.

Pants require wider compartments, around 70cm. But don't worry, these can be folded in 4 if needed to be stored in smaller compartments.

4. Drawers in a dressing room, for storing everything

Drawers offer the opportunity to exploit the full depth of a piece of furniture, as items at the back can be easily reached thanks to the runner systems. These can be used to easily store anything from socks, underwear, tights etc...

As our drawers are completely made-to-measure, they allow a vast amount of storage utility. Even so, allow at least 10cm of usable height in the drawer.

Our drawers are supplied with standard ball bearing runners, and we offer Blum runners as an option.

5.  The little +: Active and passive zones of a dressing room

When you design your furniture, think that the easiest zone to access (the active zone) is located in the middle of your furniture. This zone is between 40 and 140cm high. These areas are easy to handle for people of all heights. So keep in mind that your dressing room should be easily usable between these two sizes.

Between 140 and 180cm, we recommend putting and using this space to put your wardrobe rails.

Above that, the shelves can be used to store items used occasionally: hats, suitcases, toys and miscellaneous storage.

At the bottom, below 40cm, keep this area to install your shoes, or install drawers for items used daily.

The little plus: install sliding shelves to install your shoes. This way, you can exploit the full depth to store even more items.

Also, you can fit adjustable shelves and tilt them, to make your shoes more accessible.
