Do your own painting

DessineTonMeuble offers you a huge range of finishes and colours. But you can also choose to paint your furniture yourself, in the colour (or colours) of your choice. In this case, order an unfinished piece of furniture, ready to paint. Then apply an undercoat, followed by one or two coats of paint, using a wide brush or roller. For shelves, the edges can be painted very well, but you can also decorate them with champlats that match the thickness of the boards.

Change your door handles and knobs

Drawers and cupboard doors give you the opportunity to take care of those little details that change everything: the handles. You can find old handles in iron, brass, metal and porcelain, painted glass or turned wood, in more or less elaborate shapes, at flea markets and attics. As it is sometimes difficult to find the quantity of identical handles corresponding to the desired number, don't hesitate to mismatch, which is fun and also makes it easier to remember   the contents of each drawer.

However, there is a wide variety of " hardware " on the market, including reissues of old models, which  will allow you to master the shape, colour and quantity of handles or door knobs you need.

Organise your drawers

It's not just on the outside, but also on the inside that you can customise your drawers, creating compartments that make storage easier. This is obvious for kitchen drawers, to keep cutlery and utensils neatly separated, but we don't always think about it for other rooms in the house. And yet it prevents the contents of your drawers from getting mixed up. You'll find kits on the market that can be adapted to different drawer sizes. But you can also do things differently. Here are a few suggestions:

- use boxes of different sizes to store your office equipment, make-up, tools...- recycle shoe boxes by recutting them to the right size to store your lingerie;

- use ice cube trays to classify your jewellery;

- store rolled up: socks, ties, belts, knickers... it's so easy to roll them up and store them in bought or self-made dividers made from lightweight plywood or simply cardboard.

Decorative stickers for a change of scene

An easy solution for some, a decorative magic wand for others, decorative stickers are interesting to use, as long as you don't overuse them. Like spices in cooking, they are " decorative enhancers ", but not the decoration itself.

So a plain sticker can replace paint to make a splash of colour in a shelf. A frieze or a pretty pattern can add character to an uninspiring surface. But there are two areas in which stickers are particularly welcome: inside drawers and cupboard doors, where they

provide the same whimsy as a beautiful jacket or coat lining;  in children's bedrooms, where they make a lively, ephemeral decoration that's easy to evolve over the ages, by changing stickers.
