Use our configurator to discover our tips and models for creating a made-to-measure quarter-turn staircase.
The DessineTonMeuble configurator gives you the opportunity to create a piece of staircase furniture that perfectly matches your interior. In this article, we're going to talk about a specific type of staircase: the quarter-turn staircase. Unlike a classic staircase, a quarter-turn staircase is made up of two lengths of tread and a 90° angle. This angle can be anywhere you like: at the top, middle or bottom of your staircase.
As with a classic staircase, you can decide whether your escalier ¼ tournant starts from the right or left of your room. You will also need to make a choice about the positioning of the corner, which can leave to the right or left of your staircase.
The quarter-turn staircase is a piece of furniture that can prove complex to make. But it will offer you several advantages.
Firstly, it allows you to optimise your space. In fact, unlike a conventional staircase, which needs to be long enough to be comfortable, the quarter turn takes up very little space.
What's more, it adapts perfectly to the corners of your interior, where a conventional staircase cannot be installed. Just as fitting a conventional staircase in a small space can quickly become complicated and have an uncomfortable result. In this case, the curved staircase is the ideal solution: you can have a comfortable staircase that will fit perfectly into a narrow space while compliant with safety regulations (height and number of steps, dimensions...)
Also, the curved quarter allows you to create storage depending on the layout of its structure: you can turn it into a dressing room or a bookcase very easily while saving space thanks to the various options offered in our configurator.
Finally, it's a piece of furniture that brings design and modernity to your interior.
Would you like to make a bespoke quarter turn staircase? Our configurator gives you the option of creating two types of quarter-turn staircase: with or without a platform.
1/ The classic quarter-turn
The classic quarter-turn staircase is perfect for narrow spaces or with an angle. It allows you to make your furniture look lighter while optimising your interior space by creating storage space. Comfortable, space-saving and modern.
2/ The quarter-turn staircase with platform
You also have the option of creating a more imposing quarter-turn staircase. It is made up of an additional part: a platform under the main part of your staircase, usually in the corner towards the bottom of the unit. The platform allows you to create extra storage space. Ideal for larger rooms, it will bring design to your interior.
Your choice of the type of quarter turn will depend on the dimensions of your room as well as your preferences: made-to-measure gives you an infinite range of possibilities!
You can create your quarter-turn staircase unit on our configurator without going through our technical team. To do this, you will need to create your piece of furniture in several projects (between 2 and 3 projects for a quarter turn).
We will give you the different steps, depending on your choice of type of quarter turn, to be carried out to make your made-to-measure piece of furniture.
Creating a classic quarter turn staircase
The quarter turn staircase without a platform will need to be made in 2 different projects. Below are the different steps for creating this piece of furniture.
Step 1: Define the dimensions of your cabinet
To create your bespoke ¼ turn staircase, you will first need to define the overall dimensions of your cabinet:
Step 2: The height of the quarter turn
Once the dimensions have been chosen, you need to choose the height of your quarter turn. This choice will allow you to cut your piece of furniture in half in order to start configuring your two projects.
In effect, your piece of furniture will be cut into two projects and will be assembled during the final assembly of your piece of furniture:
Step 3: Configuring the lower part
You begin the configuration of your ¼ turn staircase furniture.
In the dimensions, you must enter:
In order to create a platform in the corner of your staircase you need to set thesize of the top landing of the same depth chosen for your staircase. This option is available in the "Dimensions" tab.
Step 4: Configuring the top
Once you've configured the dimensions of the bottom section, you now need to tackle the top section of your staircase
In the dimensions, you need to enter:
In order to configure your furniture so that it arrives at the platform level of the lower section, you need to set the height of the first step to the same height as the lower section. This option is available in the "Dimensions" tab.
Step 5: Fitting out your furniture
When you've created the two parts of your furniture, you can now optimise its aesthetics: choose the colour and interior fittings thanks to the various options available on our configurator.Step 6: Get a 3D model of the final result
Don't hesitate to contact DessineTonMeuble's customer service department to get a 3D model of the final result of your piece of furniture once the two projects have been assembled. They will also be happy to review your furniture with you so that you can have the highest quality staircase possible.
Creation of a quarter turn staircase with platform
The quarter turn staircase with platform will need to be made in 3 different projects. Below you will find the different steps for creating this piece of furniture.
Step 1: Define the dimensions of your furniture
To create your bespoke ¼ turn staircase with platform, you will first need to define the overall dimensions of your furniture:
Step 2: The height of the quarter turn
Once the dimensions have been chosen, you need to choose the height of your quarter turn. This choice will also allow you to define the height of the platform in order to start configuring your furniture.
Your piece of furniture will need to be made in 3 different projects to be assembled during the final assembly of your piece of furniture:
Step 3: Configuring the platform
To begin configuring your ¼ turn staircase, we recommend starting with the platform of your piece of furniture. In fact, this element forms the base of your furniture and is the simplest element to make.
For this configuration, you need to fill in the following dimensions:
NB: You can choose a greater depth than that chosen for the treads if you want to create an edge to your staircase
Don't forget to insert a panel in the front clipped where the quarter turn will rest to stiffen the whole of your piece of furniture. This panel must be the same width as the quarter turn.
Step 4: Configuring the quarter turn
Now you need to create the quarter turn for your furniture. Simply enter the following dimensions in the configurator:
Step 5: Configuring the upper part
Finally, all that's left to do is configure the top part of your piece of furniture: the main staircase. Once again, you need to enter its dimensions:
Step 6: Fitting out your furniture
You've finished creating the various elements of your furniture. You now have 3 different projects. You now need to fit out the inside of your piece of furniture according to your storage needs and also match the colours of the steps.
To make the top of the platform the same colour as the steps, you'll need to switch to expert mode (bottom left of our configurator). You'll then be able to access the settings for your top and change its colour.
Step 7: Get a 3D model of the final rendering
Don't hesitate to contact DessineTonMeuble customer service to get a 3D model of the final rendering of your furniture once the three projects have been assembled. They will also be happy to review your furniture with you so that you can have the highest quality staircase possible.
