Measuring yourself can seem complicated and tedious. And yet it's simpler than it seems. DessineTonMeuble shows you a few tips for taking your measurements. A crucial and compulsory step, but one that allows you to bypass all the possibilities of mass-produced furniture.
Every DIY project relies on taking good measurements. First of all, get the right materials and draw a sketch showingall the necessary dimensions:
The width of the piece of furniture
Beware of floors that you think are straight across their entire surface. In reality, this is not the case. Our advice is to take 3 measurements: floor, half-height and ceiling, and of course keep the narrowest one for your furniture.
The height (or length) of the furniture
As we saw earlier, floor surfaces are not necessarily flat. Which is why we advise you to take 2 markers on the floor corresponding to the 2 ends of your furniture, and take their heights. The aim being to conserve the smallest.
Once these measurements have been taken, we recommend that you also takemargins of 2 to 3 cm on these dimensions.
The depth of the cabinet
Often overlooked, the depth of the cabinet should match your needs, as should the height of the compartments. What are you going to store in it?
And now we need to analyse the space. That is,pay attention to any obstacles that might get in the way of assembling your furniture in the planned place: sockets, switches, skirting boards... They're not insignificant!
