Article : What type of plinth for your custom-made furniture?

Customisation isn't just about design and dimensions. Details such as plinths and skirting boards are essential to ensure that your bespoke furniture perfectly meets your needs and blends harmoniously into your space.

Our online configurator offers a diverse range of choices, and in this article we'll explore the different types of plinths and plinths available.

Type 1: Fixed plinth and long uprights

Type 1 plinths feature a fixed plinth that is attached directly to the side uprights of the furniture. This plinth is permanent, providing a neat finish. The uprights extend all the way to the floor, ensuring maximum stability. You can also opt for a cut-out at the back of the uprights, allowing you to glue the unit to the wall, even if there is a skirting board at the base of the wall. What's more, the unit is fitted with adjustable glides, allowing you to level your unit perfectly, even on uneven floors, with up to 10mm of adjustment possible.

Type 2: Fixed plinth and short intermediate uprights

Type 2 also features a fixed plinth attached to the side uprights of the unit.

However, in this option, only the side uprights extend to the floor, creating a single plinth along the length of the cabinet. As with Type 1, you have the option of choosing a cut-out at the back of the uprights for smooth wall fixing. Adjustable glides ensure perfect levelling of the furniture, even on uneven floors, with an adjustment margin of up to 10 mm.

Type 3: Clipped skirting on adjustable feet

If you're looking for maximum flexibility when it comes to the height of your furniture, type 3 is an excellent choice. This option is ideal for large pieces of furniture and uneven floors. The furniture rests on Korrekt ABS legs from Hettich, the most efficient on the market with its large diameter and wide range of heights - from just 70mm high.

Big advantages of this type of construction:

- These feet allow for significant adjustment ranging from -6mm to +30mm.

- The plinths are clipped onto the legs, making them removable, adapting to a variety of configurations.

- You also have the option of configuring a setback for the legs at the rear of the unit, allowing you to fix it to the wall without worry, even when a wall plinth is present.

- The underside of the unit is easily accessible: simplified levelling during assembly, possibility of passing technical elements (electrical wires, pipes...)

Type 4: No skirting board

If your unit is small and your floor is perfectly flat and smooth, type 4 is an appropriate option. In this case, the furniture rests directly on the plinth without a skirting board. We supply felt glides to avoid damaging the floor.

However, it is essential to note that no level adjustment is possible, which means that the floor must be perfectly flat to ensure the furniture's stability.

Type 5: No skirting board, no low panel

Type 5 offers you a solution without skirting board or low panel. This option is ideal if you need extra space under the cabinet to store appliances or other items.

However, it is crucial to ensure the stability of the cabinet. It is imperative to fix the furniture to the wall to prevent it from tipping forwards.

Discover our feet

Adjustable feet or glides make it easy to level your furniture perfectly whatever the state of the floor, it is a fundamental element in ensuring that drawers or doors work properly.

Hettich Korrekt

Wide (80mm) and very strong (400Kg capacity), this foot is particularly easy to adjust (just turn the lower part), and it offers the option of clipping on a plinth to come and hide it. Our favourite

Adjustable glidesles

Model adjustable glides fixed into the base of the furniture, allowing uneven floors to be made up. Adjustment is from the top through holes in the bottom panel of the furniture.

How to select them in the configurator?

To change the type of plinths and skirting boards, follow these simple steps:

  1. Access the "Top, Plinth and Bottom" tab on our online configurator.
  2. From this tab, select "Plinth and Skirting Board".
  3. You can then proceed to the configuration of your choice to customise your furniture according to your needs and preferences.

Note: On certain models, such as staircase furniture for example, the selection possibilities are restricted to meet the structural constraints of the furniture.
