The door is an important element within a piece of furniture. It allows you to create a closurein order to store any type of object, but also to camouflage elementslike an electric meter, for example. Choosing a certain type of door can completely change the function and use of a piece of furniture. It is therefore important to choose the doors that will be present on your furniture carefully in order to optimise its smooth operation and make it easier to handle on a daily basis. However, it can sometimes be complicated to find your way between the different types of doors and thus make the wrong choices, which won't allow you toget the most out of a piece of furniture's capabilities. To help you find your way around, we present the different types of door available on our 3D configurator, which allow you to personalise your made-to-measure furniture.
The swing door is the most standard and common door that we offer on our configurator. It opens on a vertical axis on either the right or left-hand sides. The direction of opening is defined by the side on which the hinges are positioned. In most cases, our swing doors open to 110°. They can also open to 165° when an element that needs to be pulled out of the cabinet is placed behind the door: a drawer, a sliding shelf, etc. Depending on the layout of your cabinet, we adapt the type of hinge used. What's more, our hinges are fitted with an integrated shock absorber for smooth closing. Hinged doors are ideal for wardrobes and dressing rooms, butwork perfectly with all types of furniture. But on some, it's better to opt for doors that are less traditional but will better optimise the ergonomics of your bespoke piece of furniture.
For optimum operation of our hinges, the maximum width of swing doors we recommend is 60 cm. Beyond this width, we recommend using a double door. The double door has the same characteristics as a classic swing door, but is made up of two leaves within the same column. This type of door is ideal for furniture with wider columns, such as dressing rooms or sideboards, for example. The double door takes the strain off your bespoke furniture's hinges to prevent them becoming damaged over time.
The flap door is fitted with flat hinges, allowing it to open downwards, in line with the shelf on which the flap is positioned, but also with retaining compasses. When opened, this door allows you to create a support on your bespoke piece of furniture in order to place items on it and therefore facilitate access to storage. The flap door is very regularly used in the secretary office. This practical arrangement allows you to create a desk that can simply be closed again in the evening to keep the space free: it's a real space-saving solution that can be integrated into a wide range of made-to-measure furniture. But the flap door can also be used in a china cabinet or any other piece of furniture with a lot of storage space, which can be placed on top of the flap door which, when open, acts as an extra shelf. This type of door can also be very practical on the lower part of a piece of furniture thanks to its horizontal opening.
The lift-up door is a arrangement that is suitable and ideal for fairly tall furniture. Indeed, placed on the top of a piece of furniture, it is easy to open and allows unhindered access to its contents. What's more, the lift-up door is fitted with compact, robust Aerobus mechanisms that open to 107° and close smoothly and silently thanks to its shock absorbers. It will fit perfectly on large walk-in wardrobes, high hanging cabinets, but also kitchen cabinets.
The clip-on front panel has the same appearance and is sized like a door. It is a fixed front that makes an area of your furniture inaccessible. It is attached by a specific hardware system, which clips on and off at your convenience. It is therefore ideal in order to camouflage certain objects present within your interior, such as an electricity meter or pipes, which you don't need to have simplified access to on a daily basis.
By mixing the storage and door types on your made-to-measure furniture, you can optimise its capacities to the maximum. Depending on your needs, the interior layout of your furniture and its function, varying the doors will make your modular furniture totally ergonomic, making life easier every day. Opt for hinged doors to conceal your adjustable shelves, doubling up if your column is wider than our recommendations. Choose a lift-up door on the top of your furniture. Choose a flap door to create a support, useful for storing bulky items that can accumulate (bottles, crockery, filing cabinets, etc.) or simply at the bottom of your unit. Finally, in areas of your furniture where you only need occasional access, use clip-on front panels to create a discreet cover.
Now you can tailor-make your furniture using doors adapted to your uses to optimise its daily use in just a few clicks!"
